Patches releases cinematic video for new track Sober

The Minor Formula member reminds us again why he's one of U.K. alternative rap's ones to watch

Birmingham based rapper and Minor Formula member Patches brings us a very impressive offering with his new track and accompanying video for Sober. The track and video show Patches battling with his mental health and looking for solace in the bottle. Something that many of us have likely experienced to some extent during lockdown. Emotional earnestness comes naturally to Patches which makes for interesting sonics given his raspy voice and buoyant Birmingham twang. But then mixing and collaboration is what makes him and the Minor Formula cohort so interesting. His own sound draws from hip hop, jazz, grime and garage. Effortlessly fluttering over instrumentals that give listeners some insight in to what a cultural melting pot Birmingham is. Minor Formula themselves are impossible to pin down as just one thing, as we discussed in our interview with them earlier in the year. Their network includes a sustainably sourced clothing range, photography, music videos, graphic design, blogs, pop ups shops and events, styling and direction. The multi-faceted creative family draw from their pool of talent and collaborators to put together this video which combines narrative with wavy individual clips making for some very tasty viewing.
